If you’ve ever taken a close look at your closet, you have probably noticed that there is a lot of wasted space in it. This is one of the main reasons that items end up getting put into piles instead of being placed where they should be and can be readily available to you. You have been wanting to get your closet organized, and in doing so, you will have to get all of the wasted space reworked, so you have more areas to work with. We’ve got a few helpful suggestions to get you started.
Where To Start
Start by taking inventory of what you have in the closet, what you want to keep and what you can get rid of, either by donating it, or throwing it away if it’s no use to anyone anymore. Once you’ve done that, look at
what you are going to keep and think about how you will want to have it in the closet, either hanging, stored on the floor, or perhaps placed on some shelves. For the items you are going to hang up, you can use multi-tier clothes rods. These come in various sized and can be placed in the closet at different heights, higher up for longer dresses, lower down for shirts.
If you have a lot of shirts to hang up, you can place the rods in two rows, and actually be doubling your space at the same time! For smaller items to go on the shelves, you have the option of using bins and baskets to keep your things organized. Baskets, by the way, are a great way of storing your sweaters during the warmer weather. This will help keep them from getting ‘hanger shoulder’, which happens when they remain on hangers for long periods of time.
Bins, or cubbies, are great places to keep items like belts and scarfs. You can label them and organize them according to color. For those items that are longer, have straps, or may be awkward to store, consider using a carousel. This will make it easier to find that particular purse, hat, or even for the men, that perfect tie!
Map it out
Take the time to think about how you want your closet to look, map it out if you have to. This is your closet, so there is no right or wrong way to set it up. You have the ability to customize your closet the way you want. Find the products that will work for your situation, whether you have a lot of clothes, a lot of accessories, or like me, a ton of shoes! There’s always something that can be found to help you get your closet organized.
Everyone’s situation is different when it come to their residences. You can either be a home owner, or a renter. This is also something to consider. There are two types of closet organization systems, temporary and permanent. You will want to think about which one is going to work best for you. If you are renting, there’s nothing saying you couldn’t use a removable closet organization system. This installs and removes easily when you have to take it down to move. The permanent organization system installs into the closet structure itself, and is a great idea for those who are staying put for quite awhile.
You will also want to consider the cost of each type of closet organization system before making any decisions. Make sure you know what you are going to do before you go out and purchase a closet organization system, as you may not be able to return it if you change your mind about it. Be sure to measure the space, write it down, measure it again, and check your numbers! There is a lot of space inside your closet, all you need to do is get it organized. You may be surprised to find out there is a lot more space than you originally thought.
operate a level, hammer, and a screwdriver; you won’t have any problems with the process.
also come in either a round shape design or an oval shape design. Coming in a variety of sizes, there is bound to be one that will fit into your closet space. Imagine being able to store hundreds of outfits in just a little over 10 square feet of space.
The first thing you are going to want to do to organize your closet is to take everything out of it. Once you’ve done that, go through each item and decide if you are going to keep it, or if you can get rid of it, either by donating the item or throwing it away if it is of no use to anyone. For those items you are going to keep, sort them either by season, color, or however you choose, but make sure you are happy with the way it is sorted.
